Obama Signs Lead Law Exemption Bill for Kids Off-Highway Vehicles

Obama signs lead law-exemption bill for kids' off-highway vehicles
August 12, 2011

In a victory for families who enjoy responsible motorized recreation, President Barack Obama has signed into law a bill to allow the sale of kids' off-highway vehicles (OHVs) to continue, the American Motorcyclist Association (AMA) reports.

On Aug. 12, Obama signed into law H.R. 2715, introduced by Reps. Mary Bono Mack (R-Calif.) and G.K. Butterfield (D-N.C.). The measure exempts kids' OHVs from the Consumer Product Safety Improvement Act (CPSIA) of 2008, known as the lead law.

Volunteers needed to promote ABATE of Minnesota at the Annual Vikings Childrens Ride

Jon Stutelberg, Metro Chapter, has promoted ABATE of Minnesota at this event for many years. Jon needs about 15 helpers at the Blue Heron Grill, Hugo , MN at the start of the run at 9:00 am on July 16th for parking lot duty and to work a membership table.  At the end of the ride at Grand Casino Hinckley we also have an opportunity to offer memberships to the crowd and could use help there as well.

This is easy duty and not a huge time commitment. Help will be needed on July 16th from approximately 9:00 am until 3:00 pm.

Handicap Motorcycle Plate Bill Passes House Committee

On May 2, 2011, the ABATE of MN supported bill that streamlines the process to acquire a handicap license plate for a motorcycle, passed the House Transportation Committee unanimously and was sent directly to the House floor for approval at a later time. The same action has already been taken in the Senate. This important piece of legislation will lift the burden of subjective approval for a second handicap plate on a motorcycle.
In testimony it was clear to committee members that motorcyclists make up a larger percentage of veterans than the general population in Minnesota.
